Green Water

So i managed re-seal my tank that i had doubts about, and i filled it with water (there is nothing but water in the tank) after the silicon dried for 48 hours. Last night when i filled it up the water was crystal clear. This morning when i woke up i went to look at the tank and it was this really white semi-transparent fog, and now it's this green fog that's hardly transparent. The tank isn't exposed to any direct sunlight, but it is exposed to a 60 watt equivalent florescent light. I was wondering if that's a chemical from our well that i should get rid of when i do get the equipment for my tank, or is it just algae. I have no testing equipment so far, so i would just like a speculation based on what i described

Thanks

I've found a UV Sterilizer to work very well at minimizing algae.

I'm just wondering what you used to seal the tank and how long you let it sit before adding the water?

Green water sounds like an algae bloom. A uv sterilizer (light) works wonders on the green water algae.

UV sterilizer is my vote as well. Get a cheaper one at Petco. (Green Killing Machine is the one I have) They also help p[rotect against disease and parasites.
Diatom filters will work as well.

Good morning. I've used Diatom filters with the Diatomaceous earth for the past 10 years. I highly recommend them especially for large or multiple tanks. I haven't had any type of "bloom" issues period and no diseases.

I had the same problem with cloudy green water, when I first set up my tank. I use an Eheim and a Diatom filter but the water just would not clear. I did water changes, and even added R/O water, and it would always green up again. So after doing some reading on here, I added 6 live plants and 48 hours later, the water is crystal clear. So far this has worked for me.

The Diatom filters I use are made by Vortex. I recommend them highly.
