whats causing my cloudy water?

I have a little cloudy water in my tank and can see the fish i have , which is a pleco ! anyway , would like to know if putting to many algae wafers in the tank would contribute to the cloudiness! i lost an albino rainbow shark the next morning , after 6 wafers were dropped in tank ! the nitrites are the only thing that seem a little off ! i have done a 25 % water change !

Sorry you lost your shark. 6 wafers is a bit much but it shouldn't cause cloudy water. One wafer is fine since he can't get to all six, lol. How big is he? Remember if you overfeed what is left over will breakdown and cause fluctuations with water quality which you are seeing some nitrItes. Are you doing gravel vacs to pickup uneatten food and waste? Plecos are huge waste producers as is. But you probly know that already.

Hi fishchick..ive moved your post out of another as her issues have been answered...hijacking her thread only will confuse others on your particular questions...

Hello FishChick. Over feeding your fish can lead to a multitude of problems. Be careful. Make sure you do your gravel vacuums regularly. Food left in the bottom of the tank can lead to Planaria and other water issues.
Are you using activated carbon in your filters? If so are you changing it every 3 weeks? I see that your tanks have been set up for a while so I don't think it would be an algae bloom at this point but it could be.
Although most store bought food says it won't cloud the water...if there is too much food in the tank it could be the cause.
I would do another water change, gravel vacuum...change carbon and see if it helps.
Best of luck.

6 wafers is a bit much as you op said and the vaccuum of waste needs to be done to get the tank cycled...can you use a turkey baster?

what does the ich and ph have to do with it? please dont go off on the ph kick as your other threads have gone when its the result of an uncycled tank not a ph issue....you need to do daily water changes until you have 0 for ammonia/nitrites and under 20 nitrates....but this has been explained before as well....

Hi FishChick.

(In general) white cloudy water is from bacteria, which are living off of ammonia.

To solve the white cloudy water, you have to starve the bacteria.

To starve the bacteria, take away the ammonia.

Take away the ammonia by partially changing water every day and vacuum the gravel.

If you gravel vacuum is too big, swish around the gravel with something long, then vacuum the water. This way, the poo and old food will float in the water and get sucked up.

If you have ammonia, you will have cloudy water. I recommend you change some water every day.

It sounds like (from reading all your previous posts) your tank has never cycled. You have received good advice about this before. Medications are not going to help at all. Your experience has already shown that. pH has absolutely nothing to do with it either. I promise.
