Very Cloudy Water

Hello everyone

last weekend i got myself my first tank i bought myself my first tank, its 60 litre tropical freshwater tank with a stingray filter, 100 watt heater etc etc

anyways like a true beginner i added my gravel and my ornaments and filled it about 3/4 with water, put in the nutrafin products that came with my tank, i think it was nutrafin cycle and nutrfin aqua. tank looked great, i came back the next day to a very cloudy tank i had forgotten in my excitment/stupidness to rinse through my gravel, which leads to be believe it is not a massive bacteria boom.

i was wondering if my filter will clear the water or should i clear out my tank and start again.

thanks
andy

welcome to fishlore!!! if theres no fish, it should clear up on its own in a few days.....I wouldnt use the product cycle tho..it isnt the right bacteria and wont cycle the tank properly....how are you going to cycle the tank ?
heres a good link to help you with the cycle if you havent seen it

The Aquarium Nitrogen Cycle

Four Methods of Fish Less Cycling
Hello Fehan and Welcome to Fish Lore. According to your aquarium information you are unaware of the nitrogen cycle hence the link above. It's crucial to fish keeping. Check it out and if you have questions let us know. We'll be glad to help.

Since you've just started the tank it wouldn't hurt to start over and rinse your gravel first. I personally don't recommend the product "Cycle" as it doesn't contain the necessary bacteria to maintain your aquarium cycle without adding it for the life of the tank.

I know this is a lot of information for you. Take your time and study the links. You'll be glad you did in the long run.

Hope you enjoy the site. Lots of friendly people and great advice. Let us know if we can help you more.
Best wishes.

Hi Feehan. Welcome to FishLore.

Congrats on the new tank!!

I agree that fishless cycling is the quickest, easiest, cheapest, safest way to go!

(this isnt from a lazy view)

but if the cloudyness (is that a word) goes in a couple of days would the water be ok. or is once the water has the cloudyness from the gravel is the water unhabitable.

that doesnt mean the tank is ready for fish tho! you have to cycle the tank first...

Hello Feehan. As long as there are no fish in the tank and you haven't started cycling, you can try turning it off for the day and see if it helps. If you don't see much difference then I'd turn it back on.
