Cloudy Water Problem

Within the last 2 weeks or so, my fish tank's water has become a lot cloudier. You can still see to the back, but its less clear. Why could this be? There is no ammonia or nitrites, but the nitrates are a little high. Could that be the cause?

Thanks for any help.

what test kit are you using? and whats the expiration date on the bottles?

if its cycled for sure, it could be from overfeeding or maybe some direct sunlight is hitting the tank? also check the filter to make sure its not clogged up and doing its job correctly

is the tank fully covered? I had a cloudy tank because dust was coming in a nearby window and clouding the tank. Have you changed the filter media recently? Sometimes when the filter floss is clogged, it just doesn't work as well. It could also be overused carbon(if you have any) that's spitting back all the stuff that's trapped in it. Hope it goes well.

Well, the test kit is the big API test kit, (not test strips), but there's no expiration date that I can find. Also, my tank isn't near any windows and is covered. While the filter cartridge is looking a little full, I just changed it like 2 weeks ago. It's still working, just there's poo and junk on it.

And I don't think I've been overfeeding them, I've been feeding 1 frozen food cube every 2-3 days.

It's been set up since January '08. And it's not like a green water, its whitish cloudy.

When you changed your filter, did you throw out the old one? Did you have the new one in there for a while first? I am wondering if it is some kind of bacterial bloom?

Yeah I threw out the old one, I know it's not that it's cycled, because there's no ammonia or nitrites, and there is nitrates.
What could cause a bacterial bloom?
