| | Fish Master | Oh, no. Sorry about your power. Please keep us posted and glad you didn't lose any fish. |

| | Moderator | Keep an eye on your water parameters. It's unlikely that 12 hours would do too much damage to the nitrifying colonies, but it's always best to be sure.
The cloudiness could be a bloom, or it could just be a bit of debris from the 12 filterless hours. As long as you don't see any ammonia or nitrites, though, the cloudiness shouldn't hurt the fish at all.
Good luck and keep us posted. |

| | Moderator | Best of luck. So far so good with your readings. Did you put all of your filter media inside the aquarium? Do you have emergency battery powered air supply? |

| | Fish Keeper | no emergency air pump i should get one though and the canister stayed filled but didnt put the HOB in the aquarium i suppose the top half of the bacteria sponge is worthless now huh? |

| | Fish Addict | gmen, are you in Jersey by any chance? The storm here last nite was really severe, I lost power for 6 hours. Today is the first sunny day in almost 3 weeks. Yay !
Definitely get the battery air pumps, they'll give you such peace-of-mind, and can save your fish in long power outages, especially when the a/c goes out, and the water temp creeps up. I've got two Penn-Plax battery air pumps for my 30g that come on automatically when the power goes out. They worked like a charm last nite!
oops, just noticed you're in NY. Yep, you got the same storm we did ! |

| | Fish Addict | I may have got mine at PetCo, but Petsmart has them too !
here's the link to the product at petsmart.com, in case your local store doesn't have it in stock. http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2753043
just make sure to get the Penn-Plax B11, not the cheaper B10 model. The B11 is the one where you plug it into the wall, and it comes on automatically when power goes off. It takes two D batteries, sold separately. |

| | Fish Keeper | Thankfully you didnt loose any fish. Our power played blackouts but no real loss of power (have a generator anyway). We lost a huge tree on the side of the house-didnt land on the house. I heard the lightening hit the tree and the tree crack right down the limbs. Now, like another poster, we have sun today for the first time since I don't know when. Going out now to check on the garden.

| | Moderator | Anytime your power goes out for that long of a period, throw all of your media into the tank...that way it will still have ammonia to feed from and with a battery back up air supply the fish and the bacteria will all have oxygen. The bacteria need oxygen to survive as well. Glad you haven't lost any fish
The back up air usually runs around $12 or so. Well worth the money |

| | Fish Keeper | do you think all my bacteria has died?man i hope not lol |

|
| | Moderator | It's hard to say...as long as your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are fine I wouldn't worry too much |
