| Hi. Well i do make water changes with my fishes in them. My setup is around 25 days old and i have all matured discus in them. Well 4 of them are matured and i do have 2 pairs of web discus too. As far as the parameters of the tank goes. My tank is 3 feet long, 1.25 feet wide and the height is 1 and half feet. I have a shade for this tank and also dim lighting. The filter is the normal sponge filter and i am not much aware of the pH value of the water cause i do not know how to find that out but yes the tempertature is around 28 to 29 degree C. All these days i did not have any problem but only since yesterday i am facing this prob pls help |

| Welcome to FishLore!
Alex has you pretty much covered but as much information that you can provide will help. Also, what size tank do you have? If you have fish, what kind of fish? How many fish do you have? |

| By the dimensions you provided you are dealing with a 45 US gallon aquarium.
By water parameters Alex was referring to the water parameters. These are ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. Do you have a test kit?
Since your aquarium is 25 days old you are most likely dealing with a bacteria bloom. This is actually a good thing as it indicates that the bacteria you require to maintain a healthy aquarium are multiplying. |

| Test kits are available in all fish stores and also online. The most highly recommended test kit amongst members of this forum is a liquid based API Master Test Kit.
I’m guessing you are not familiar with the nitrogen cycle and encourage you to read about it here… http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm
It is very important to understand and learn about the nitrogen cycle as you will need to mimic nature to keep healthy fish. A test kit will help you know how well you are doing at mimicking nature.
The bacteria bloom itself will not harm your fish. However the toxins your fish may be exposed to that are creating the bloom does need to be addressed. |

Please read the link I provided you in my last post. Understanding the nitrogen cycle will help you far more then I can help you with you not understanding the cycling process. Quote:

| Your threads have been merged together. It's best to have one thread for a particular problem. Less confusing.
Good luck, I hope you get things worked out. |

| If you found me rude then i am really sorry. Frankly speaking this is the 1st time i am using any forum to get my problem solved. I love my fishes more than my own son. I am concerned for them and probably because of this desperate condition i might have been a little upset and rude for which i am really sorry to you. But if you have been in love and that too madly in love with discus then you can understand me. As far as my threads are concerned i really dont know how to get them in one place as this is the 1st time i am using this kind of platform. Well i am sorry from the bottom of my heart for being so uncanny with you. But i am really despo to get this problem solved. Last edited by sirdarksol; April 5th, 2009 at 10:34 AM.

| On the top right of the thread is a pull down menu, from there, you can choose to subscribe to a thread.
I think Alex was correct in saying it's probably a bacterial bloom. It happens in fairly new tanks that are cycling and will usually go away in time.
Dozey gave a link to the nitrogen cycle that will help you understand what's going on in your tank.
He also suggested getting the API master test kit and post your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
These readings will help the the members figure out what's going on in your tank.
The white string....can you post a pick of it?

| Well ok. Hey Lucy i am not able to get a clear picture of my tank but tell me one thing is this bacterial bloom harmful for my discus in any way. Is it advisable to transfer my discus to another tank or i can let them stay where they are |

| If your tank is cycling the best thing to do is ride it out. Daily water changes to keep the toxins down while the good bacteria get settled in and working. You'll want a test kit since as soon as you're reading 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrites you can stop the daily changes.
Good Luck with your tank. |

| The bloom it's self shouldn't be harmful but it's very important to know what the readings are.
If the levels are high, daily water changes like Red suggested would be in order. |

| It may not solve the cloudy water.....that usually goes away. The water changes will help your fish if you have ammonia or nitrite, both are toxic to your fish.
The link Dozey provided explains more about it. |

| Thanks Lucy. I do change 30 to 40% water everyday. I will do as you all say. Thanks a lot and i am again sorry for my rudeness. It wasnt intensional but just that i was too very upset with the water condition and i will research a little bit more so that next time my threads are in place. Thanks honey and wish me luck for my discus keeping. I will keep you informed about my tank condition. Bye Last edited by sirdarksol; April 5th, 2009 at 10:39 AM.

| Yes, please let us know how things are going.
I understand how upsetting it is when we are afraid for our fish's health.
Discus are beautiful fish we'd love to see a pic of them when you can. |
