Cloudy Green H2O!

As you can probably guess by the title, my water is cloudy and green! The fishies are behaving normally, I'm up to date on my water changes. ammonia-0, I can never remember if its nitrate or nitrite is supposed to be there just a little, but whichever it is, it's normal too. So the tank is cycled. The only thing I could think of was I left a cucumber in there for a few days, but I took it out 2-3 days before the water was cloudy, so I'm a wee bit confused. And I don't have an algae problem. Any ideas? I'll try to get some pictures, but my camera cant really see the green color.

Green water can be a type of algae. Tavel posted a thread a while back about his experience with green water, found here:

Green Water

There's info in there (including what worked for him) about possible removal methods, if it turns out that algae is the cause of the green tint.

Alrighty then. I'll try and find a willow branch. How big does it need to be?

You can also put floss in your filter to filter it out. The veggie left too long was probably the culprit. You fed the algae! check this out

Where do you put the floss? My tank has a little spot for the sponge, carbon and bio-max. I have some floss that came as a freebie with my quarantine tank, can I just jam it in there where ever it fits? And that was a good article, thanks. My tank looks like the one with the green water in it!

I just stuff floss in the filter where ever I have room You may have to change the floss fairly often (1x a day maybe) I also use it to just polish the water sometimes.

Okay. I think I'm going to have some problems with getting a willow branch anytime soon, it snowed last night, and there aren't really any willow trees in Seattle to begin with. I'll the floss. I actually don't really care if my water is green, but it's driving my mom nuts, she can't seem to wrap her mind around the fact that it's not hurting the fish!

EDIT: Okay, I found the floss, I think. It's called Eclipse Ready-to-use Filter Cartridge. Is that the right stuff?

The fish are probably loving all the little critters and unicell algae floating around in there for them to eat.
