pink water?

ive got a 3g betta tank that i set up using gravel and 1 gallon of water from my existing tank and used filter sponge drippings as well, at first it was ok -0am, 0 nitrites and 10 nitrates, then yesterday the water had a pink tint to it, tested ammonia and it was .25, did partial water change and the water was clearer ie less pink, anyone know why the water was pink

What color gravel did you use? I think there was thread a while ago about someones gravel leaching color.

The other thing that comes to mind, could the drippings have had that gunky pinkish stuff on the filter media (from left over food)

I agree with lucy, its probably the gravel..mine still leaks green now n then...can you cut off some of the filter media from the cycled tank? drippings wont do any good as there is not much if any beneficial bacteria in the water ...goodluck!

the gravel was from my established tank and is natural gravel and i rinsed the media first, im wondering if it is bacteria plumes maybe?
