Weird water color, after using ick out of coarse...

I have done the proper water changes, etc and finally put the filter back in yesterday and when I went to get the water out yesterday and today for the water changes it has a cloudy yellowish green color, is that from the ick out? What should I do? the Fish are happier than ever looking healthy...

Hello
Yes, some meds do tend to color up the water. Your fish will be fine with it, and over time and water changes it will disappear. Glad to hear your fishys are doing better!

Do you have activated carbon in the filter? That'll also help clear the meds out of the water.

The AC will help to clear up that water quickly. Just remember to get rid of the charcoal after two weeks. Either replace it then or do not use any at all,(IMO) as its not really necessary other than to clean up meds and correct a problem with the clarity of the water. Kept in longer the AC starts to leach back into the tank everything it was filtering.

Hi Pauline, Maybe a MOD, could help you make this a new thread. But if that doesn't happen....Let me say, WELCOME to FISHLORE!!! Don't want to hijack this thread.

How large is your tank? What kind of tank is it? Freshwater or salt?

Have you gone through the "cycle" with this tank? If so please post the water readings for:

Ammonia?
Nitrite?
Nitrate?

Are there fish in it?

What equipment do you have running with this tank, and what temperature is it?

Usually cloudy can mean two different things in a new tank.
#1 the gravel wasn't washed thoroughly, so there are particles of dirt in the water. The cure for this is to drain the water, rinse the gravel several times till the water starts coming off clear. It may then be a little cloudy when you refill, but the filter should take care of it.
#2 If you are in the middle of the nitrogen cycle this can indicate a bacterial bloom, which is GOOD, and soon your cycle will be finished and it will clear on its own.

Get back with those readings, and what fish are you planning on stocking with? Good Luck
