Bacterial Bloom clarification?

Hi I know there are many threads on cloudy water, but I would like to establish if I may whether a bact.bloom is caused by too much beneficial/good bacteria or bad bacteria or is it a mixture of both.

I normally think of a bacteria bloom as a sudden rapid expansion of the good bacteria population. You usually see them in a new tank during its cycle. They are nothing to worry about.

Thanks Sean!
I use AquaCycle live bacteria only periodically if I rinse out the filter cartridge/sponge (the directions say to use 5mls every week to replenish the bacteria-I don't do this) and I noticed that every now & then when I add even a few drops into the tank, the next day I get a bact.bloom that lasts for over a week. I do p.w.changes every 2nd dy when this happens but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The tank has been operating for 2 yrs or so & as I mentioned, just wanted to get clarification. Maybe I don't need to add any bacteria.

I was just now thinking about Old Tank Syndrome & whether the tank is going into mini cycles.
