GH and KH ?

I just got an API test kit for GH and KH.

The KH changed color with one drop. The problem is that the GH does not change even after 40 drops. What is going on with the test and what can I do to fix it?

i think it depends on your water parameters. kh only measures carbonate hardness, whereas gh is your general hardness. usually gh is higher. the other thing that i noticed was also that it's a lot harder (at least for me) to see the endpoint of the gh test relative to the kh test.

is there a reason you think those readings might be off?

griffin, Well when I did the GH I put 40 drops in the test tube and there was NO color change.
I gave up adding drops after 40 with no change. The KH changed color with 1 drop.
I dont know what to do. The chart stops at 12 drops.

hmm - we might have different tests. i also have the api brand, but there's no chart. each drop is one kh or gh unit.

are your readings consistent? (is the tank consistently hard water?) if so, i wouldn't really worry about it. fish will adapt to most any water conditions
