Cleaning tank questions???

I just bought a tank that has hard water stains through out the whole tank. How can I safely remove this stuff? In the tank the old owner had drift wood, how can I clean that? How long would it take to clean this tank so it would be ready to set up? The guy suggested I use vinegar and water, to clean it out. Is that safe for the fish I would put in it later on? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Cleaning tank questions???

Vinegar is safe for the fish after it's rinsed out. I think there is a cleaning solution for aquariums in pet shops but I am not sure. I also heard of people using bleach. You will have to really rinse out the tank thoroughly. . I don't know how long it will take though. I really would not suggest the bleach one though. Vinegar would be the best way to go.

Re: Cleaning tank questions???

Whether you use bleach or vinegar, you will have to rinse a lot to make sure there's none left in your tank when you get done cleaning. I spray vinegar on my glass tops and let it set for a few minutes before trying to scrub the residue off. I have also used oxyclean to scrub the glass which worked well. Just remember to rinse well.
