Diatoms

HEy guys.

I was just wondering if theres a secret to getting rid of diatoms.

Im cutting down my light usage and I clean the tank and change the water every week.

I just keep wiping it away.

Any solutions?

also make sure you are not overfeeding the fish as it can make diatoms harder to get rid of. eventually they do go away..............

I usually just wipe the glass and they dont come back

Ive been wiping the glass for months haha.


Should i start feeding the fish every other day?


I was thinking about getting a bristlenose pleco

a bristlenose pleco would eat them and so would ottos. how many time a day do you feed? maybe just cut back a little in the amount.

Hello Gouramiguy. Diatoms are very common in newly established aquariums, up to a year, and will eventually go away on their own. The best I can recommend is to keep up with your gravel vacuums, wipe them off the glass and plants, ornaments. It may not look too pretty but they aren't harmful.

Think a Bristlenose would live in my tank?
