What canister filter should I get?

I am looking for a filter for my 60 gallon aquarium I was originally looking at a EHIEM 2236 Ecco canister filter which is for up to 80 gallons, but it is only 185GPH, which seems kinda low, so what do you think for a 60 gallon aquarium? I was hoping to get somthing no more than a $200.00 preferably a little less.

What about EHIEM Classic, or Marineland C Series. Now I am looking at the marineland one but some reviews say it leaks and I definatly don't want it to leak! So what do u think, do u have any expireinces with any of the filters or other canister filters that I could get?

Now I am really looking into the Marineland C Series what do you think of that filter, and 185 GPH enough for a 60 gallon?

Hello Emmanuel. A good guide line for filtration is to have 8 to 10 x the volume of your tank on the gallons per hour (GPH). For a 60g tank I would at least shoot for 480gph or more.
Have a good weekend.

A canister filter doesn't need the gpm that a HOB requires, due to the fact that there is not way for the water to bypass the media like it can with a HOB.

I have a Fluval and I am very happy with it.

I use an Eheim Professional II canister filter. Fantastic system. Everything is compartmented, easy to stop, remove hoses and to change media that is kept individually in their own trays.

This cycled very quickly when I set up my 50g, it is quiet and in my opinion, well worth the money spent. I recently had to change one of the pads to fight off some algae and it took 10 minutes from start to finish. Hope this is of some value to you.
