routine water change surprise

Ok, so doing my weekly routing partial water change and decided to take out one of the filters to clean and to my surprise I found 3 fry swimming in the bottom of the filter!!!!! I have filter pads covering the intakes on both filters so how did this happen??

Thankfully I found them

whahoo gotta love those finds...the pad isnt tight enough is what id think...instead of pads, use nylons or floss to be extra safe....congrats on the babies tho!

Would it be ok to take out the other filter and clean it also as there may be some in there as well. I usually alternate cleaning the filters and never do both the same week. I replaced the filter floss with a new piece because it did look a little battered.

Thanks much

cleaning filters depends on how long the tanks have been running....anything thats under 3-4 months old, I wouldnt over clean ever...rinsing a few time in that time frame is ok ...but you can always take it out to check and then just put it back in ....when you replace the floss, just add the new stuff in front of the old and keep the old for 2 weeks..then you can throw it out .....what kind of babies did you find? isnt it exciting !

Tank has been up since May. I replaced the piece of filter pad I had on the intake not inside the filter. I only rinsed everything in tank water and put back. I think I will take out the other filter and just get a look. My 2 guppies had babies last week so they are guppies. I have 2 batches of fry in the tank. The other ones are about 5-6 weeks old and it is 6 of them. Now the new batch and they dont hide much, they are very bold, its about 15 of them. Its so exciting that I am now in the process of finding a bigger tank.

Thanks much
