considering a python

Do you leave you fish in the tank when doing partial water changes? What about water temperature from the sink? I just have a lot of questions? Thanks much

Hi redlessi,
I always leave my fish in the tank during waterchanges. I just vacuum around them and they move out of the way. As far refilling I just make sure the temp of the water going in is as close as the temp already in the tank as possible. You can usually get it close enough just by feeling the water. I love my Python, it's pretty much priceless in our house.

So what do you just use some hot water as well as cold? I never use my hot water from the sink for much other than washing dishes and stuff like that. I guess I need to test it first to play it safe...

Thanks much

In the winter I do but it's so hot right now i can just use my cold..lol..
You'll check the temp of the water in your tank then try to get the temp as close to that as possible before filling the tank with it. It's super easy.

I love my Python I could not manage without it. Cesch and I were discussing it before and I use my outside hose for draining it is so much faster with the Python....and thanks to Cesch I checked my water temp outside and I can now use it to do refills since the water is almost the same temp.

I love my python...my hose can reach outdoors and into the garden so i just let it drain and water the plants. I found using the sink thing more of a hassle than its worth..maybe i'm doing it wrong lol. It's also great for filling a brand new tank ( no more hundreds of water filling trips to the sink).

Good morning Red. I too suggest leaving your fish in the tank during water changes. It will be a lot less stressful on the fish. Get your "new" water as close to the same temperature as possible. Sudden temperature fluctuations is a major cause of disease.

I have adopted my GF's python for changing water since the tank is in the attic i run the hose out the window once i get the siphon going I leave the fishies in the tank you just have to keep an eye on them so yo dont accidentally suck them up an use a bucket to fill the tank back up and as others have said its best to get the temp as close as possible and you can usually tell just buy using your hand in the water

I also leave my fish in while doing water changes...I don't know what I would do with all of them if I took them out to clean and i can just see myself chasing down all the snails to clean their tanks out they are faster than you would think!!! I did find out how it got its name the other day....get it tangled up and you will see exactly what I mean if it is full of water, I bet I looked like one of those snake chasers on Discovery trying to get that thing untangled!! And one more thing my back just loves my python as long as I don't tangle it up.

I hear of the Python siphon all the time my pet store always has the video playing on an endless loop so people can watch it over, and over again

As for fishes, I always leave my fishes in the tank when I do a water change or a gravel wash (siphoning the gravel) and then I just take in water from the Amazon River, I do use a heater but the heater doesn't turn on too often because it is very warm during the day and the heat gets into my house so the only time it does turn on is when I close all of the windows, and doors and then I turn on the AC, then after a while the heaters will turn on to keep the water the same. Oh and at night too since it will get a little cold.

Other than that, my fishes are all fine outside and inside the house

I hope that helps!
