Not sure how to clean this.

I tried cleaning an old 36g tank with vinegar but the one side
isn't coming clean. I'm new to aquariums so I really have no
clue what it is. Any thoughts on how to clean?

I haven't tried it yet but I did read gunners thread on cleaning mineral deposits and haze.

It kind of looks like dried on algae...
If the tank is glass, have you tried using a new razor blade?
Get the type with only one sharp edge. Put it angled on the glass to slide under the algae.
Do it gently so you don't scratch the glass. It may take a couple of passes to lift the stuff.
Good luck,

Mabye steel wool? I use that on my glass tank when stuff gets caked on.

Did you try something like a paper towel dipped in vinegar, or did you actually let the vinegar soak on the area? I have an old SW tank that was covered in old coralline algae. Once we soaked paper towels in vinegar and laid them on the problem areas for a couple hours, it scraped off easily with an acrylic scraper. I was shocked at how easy it was.

Wanted to mention, in case it's not obvious:
Keep the razor blade away from the silicone edges.

Maybe something sharp or rough. Maybe a sponge with the rough side. Or maybe the steel wool like joesmo said. Even a razer blade should get it off. Just be careful with it in your tank.
