Stability

What do you guys think of Stability bacteria? I know a lot think Cycle is very bad, so I stopped using that product, but everytime I do a water change I always put in bacteria. I had previously ordered several Stability and Tropical Science bacteria and now I'm concerned if all bacteria products are bad.

I do a lot of water changes and always used bacteria as insurance.

Thanks for your input.

I don't think it's that all bacterial products are 'bad' - it's that in a cycled tank, they aren't necessary.

If you need to add them with every wc to keep your tank cycled, it isn't truly cycled and can very quickly become unstable.

I haven't used these products myself, but from other posts here the only bacterial product that works (for accelerating the real cycling process, not for regular addition to keep it cycled) is Tetra Safe Start.

See this thread, it's related and may help answer your question: Bacteria Supplements

Good luck!

Edited to add: this may be of interest too - My Experience with Superbac Nitrifying Bacteria

Hi Boogie, not all are bad.

Kind of a funny story here, I was in a fish store a few weeks ago looking for Tetra Safe Start.
Got talking to a guy working there, he said they only carry stablity.
He swears by it, says he's been fish keeping for umpteen years and has always used it with no problems.

Well, of course, this peaked my interest. I ask, how often do you have to add it?
His answer.....with every water change. Yikes!
Let's see......umpteen years times whatever the cost of that product.
Sounds like a lot of money when you can be patient and let nature take care of cycling the tank.

Wow! Think of the money spent over the years adding bacteria EVERY water change! Yet another reason to be patient and allow your tank to cycle properly............

not bad, just unnecessary those products need to be added every week for the entire life of the tank because the bacteria that they contain isn't self sustaining and will die off after a short period of time. if you miss a week then you could crash your entire cycle or send you into a mini-cycle.
