Non-Standard water changers.

What type of suction device do you use ? Is it homemade ? I am interested in length and diameter of hose. How you start suction ? Length and diameter of "suctioning" tube. How do you keep hose on bottom of tank. Do you wear gloves ?
TIA
Drew

I use 5/8 tubing with elongated cylinder 2 1/2" diameter attached and one way valve built in, 6' long, purchased, I suck then put my finger over the end and direct into bucket, I am barehanded.

I use a gravel vac but let me add that to keep the hose in the tank, I close the lid on it (doesn't lower water flow) or trap it under a decoration.

There are ways to DIY make pythons too. Mostly requires a hose and sink adapter, I'm pretty sure. There are articles out there.

I am in a rest home and when I inherited the tank here I inherited one of those. They tell me it is 7 years old. It is too big and too difficult for me to use.
