cleaning outside of tank glass

I feel maybe a little silly asking this question, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

With my previous airstone it kept getting pulled out of the gravel. I never figured out exactly why... but the cories aren't exactly graceful, so I figured they were bumping it and it was coming out.

So to solve this problem I used a piece of duct tape (I swear that stuff fixes everything) to hold the air line in place at the back of the tank. That worked great; but since replacing my air stone with a wand I no longer needed it, and pulled it off.

Now I'm left with some adhesive from the duct tape. I do not have any razors on hand. What can I safely use on the OUTSIDE of the glass to remove this? I did a little googling and found that acetone (which I have), and straight vinegar (I only have white wine vinegar) might remove adhesive (and peanut butter if you can believe it). I also have your standard glass cleaner, which has ammonia in it. I ALSO have straight ammonia (hooray for the dollar store). Which of these things, if any, can I safely use on the outside of the tank that will also remove the adhesive? I could pick up some razor blades later but I'm tired of looking at the adhesive; and I was wondering if I could just use something else.

all of those will be fine...even the standard glass cleaner...but the polish remover works best

Cool beans!

I'm so ridiculously careful with any sort of fumes in my home I wasn't sure whether the acetone would be an issue that close to the water. I don't even burn scented candles anymore (much to my man's chagrin).

But who needs candles when you've got fresh clean fishwater to smell! Ok, it doesn't smell like anything really.

aww in time, you will relax more...never can be too careful...but for the record, I ALWAYS have at least 10 candles burning all day in my home...im a huge candle junky as well as fish..and I have dogs...and although my house is kept clean, I dont want anyone to smell that famous "dog smell" so I burn them all the time...its not an issue and hasnt been in the 8-9 years ive kept fish im with the man..start burning again!!!!!!!

I burn candles too just not right next to the tank. Love candles. Alcohol will also remove the sticky tape stuff(yep and P'nut butter will remove gum from kids hair )

Thanks!

Ok but my left hand still smells like polish remover even though I scrubbed with dish soap and water. Is this going to be ok even though I'm planning on changing my water in the next hour? I'm such a worry wart but I'd rather ask than not!

Clean it with alcohol and it will cut any oil that might still be on it. Then wash and rinse well. I know how you feel, I'm paranoid as well.
