The weekend

Good morning everyone. Wow! This past week has really gone by fast. Get your siphons and buckets ready it's that time again! Today is my water prep day (I get my water ready for my water change (WC) tomorrow).

I was talking with my other half last night. Things are going well with the construction. The wiring and plumbing was completed yesterday. Hopefully on Monday the tile will be laid on the floor. Too, so far (and knock on wood) we are coming in under budget. Chances are once the kitchen is done we'll be able to start enclosing the screened porch (sooner than expected) and turning it into my aquarium room. The house is a disaster for now but that's ok it will get better. It's always nice to have something to look forward to.

I have mentioned in previous posts about looking for a 200g+ acrylic tank. However, I have about decided to go with another glass tank instead. Mainly because of the outrageous price of acrylic. I'll just have to get some of the young men in the neighborhood to move it. (I have arthritis in a couple of my fingers and sometimes it's even hard to lift my coffee cup). Oddly enough it doesn't bother me a bit when I'm practicing piano. Anyways..
ENJOY the weekend and take care of your fishes needs

Good morning Aquarist
Glad to hear that things are still running smoothly on the construction site!
I hope you have been taking before and after photos of the progress? It makes a great photo album. Where you are located it sounds like an enclosed screen room/porch would be wonderful for a summer fish house!
Best of luck with the project and as before.. still waiting on photos!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello CapeKate. Yes, taking lots of pictures. Once it's all done I'll post before, during and after pics. Now CapeKate don't go putting ideas in my head Although I do have my 72g bow front sitting out there empty. I'm just trying to have patience and wait until we get it enclosed so I can have fish out there all year. My own little "fish, man cave". Fish and a flat screen, small refrigerator for frosted mugs and beverages. As it stands right now this porch is wasted space because we have a screen porch up stairs (right above it) that we always use. My house sits on a creek bank (I may have mentioned that before). Mosquito's everywhere. One screened porch is a necessity.
My house and view of the creek:

WOW.. those are some porches! Beautiful with lots of room for sure! I wont put any ideas in your head that are not there already hehehe...
BUT... it seems that you sure can make a great 'man cave' out of the bottom screened in porch.
Have you had flooding so close to the creek and yes.. the mosquito's must be something else down there!
You have a wonderful spot there.. and your home looks terrific!

Thanks CapeKate. We are in a flood zone (and have to have flood insurance) although it has never flooded to the point that it was in the house, came close during hurricane Hugo in 1989. The creek is tidal and leads into a river that goes to the ocean. We can get to the ocean by boat in about 2 hours. (there are gators in the creek, huge turtles, I've even seen dolphin (Flipper).

seems like this week has been long for me!!!! LOL thought it would never end hahaha...kids keep me running and they are adults now!

I so love your home and settings...it looks so peaceful and a place to just relax with your coldies...I want a "woman cave" like that someday!!!!!!

my dream is to move south as I hear the pace is much more relaxed and ppl just arent as busy with life and running around with their heads cut off, like we are up here....southerners appreciate the simple things in life ....I dont think we know what "sit back and enjoy life" means anymore

thanks for sharing ...I have a nice visual of my future now
take care my friend!

Thanks Shawnie...relaxation and staying stress free is key to good health IMO. Simple is the only way to go We have to enjoy life now because we don't have another chance. I live in the boonies, 15 miles from town. My road has a 3 mile driveway (teehee)so to speak and dead ends 2.5 miles past us. Very small community. We're all more like family than just friends.

Shawnie, come on down! lol I know of 2 places for sale. 1 place has a very small (I don't think my baby grand would fit) new house 700sq feet at the most, creek front and another creek front with a new double wide on it. I think the prices are ranging from 139k to 200k. What you would really be paying for is the location being on the creek front.

A great piece of paradise you have there!! I am envious of your lifestyle. I too am running around like a chook with its head cut off, hence my renewed interest in fish keeping - very relaxing!
If your porch has a timber floor, you may have to reinforce your floor to take a 200G tank. It would weigh in at close to a ton once completed! Am looking forward to when you start your project.

Thanks Lifesabeach. My own little piece of heaven on earth. Actually the down stairs porch is on a slab. Too, we had it tiled when we redesigned the bathroom (if you look at the pic facing the front of the house the new bath section is to the right with the 3 front windows). We can shower (completely open, no shower curtains or sliding doors, large enough to have a party in lol) and see the creek. So that's 1 less worry and I appreciate the tip anyway. It's always good to try and cover all the bases as I'm sure you know being in the trade. Pics of the bathroom:

Looks Great! I live on a 600 square metre block! I'll let you do the conversion. Sneeze and your neighbors know about it. My only asset is the beach is a 2 minute walk. My only regret is I could have bought a block in 1990 with a view of both the marina on one side and the beach on the other! No way I could afford it now! No blocks left anyway. But I can hear the waves from home.
To walk out of your place and be greeted by that, how do you manage to leave it to go to work each day (assuming you still have to work for a living)?

Thanks again.
I lived near the beach for many years but it doesn't sound as nice as where you're living now Life. There was a main hwy inbetween my apartment and the beach as well. I still loved it in my younger days (tourist town) and I like to go back once in a blue moon. When I do go back I always stay ocean front. So peaceful hearing the waves.
Here in the boonies there is no traffic...so much wildlife I can't believe it. I go to bed listening to a chorus of frogs, sometimes the hoot owls and screech owls wake we up during the night, and in the morning it's bird song paradise. My bedroom doors lead onto the down stairs screened porch. This time a year and the fall is my favorite.

lol, we should switch! as someone who has lived in the south for all but the first two years of their life (i was born in cincinnati) i'm ready to move back up north for a change of pace! the best thing about where i live is that i'm actually in the highest part of virginia beach, so we aren't even required to have flood insurance but the oceanfront is still two minutes away, as well as the chesapeake bay (watch out for the jellyfish though!!! they're insane over there)

aquarist48, i love your house!!! it's gorgeous, as well as the view!

I love it aquarist48, when can I move in? lol
Thanks for sharing the awesome pics.

I'll also be doing watwer changes this week end along with some much neglected house work (yuck)

My husband and I have probably have (hopefully) 1 more serious move in our lives, a few years in the future once my girls get settled a bit into their own lives.
I hope to get a place in the woods and enjoy the wildlife and the water, something I've always loved.

Wow, your house is amazing I am glad that all of the construction is going well. That must be so cool to have your house right next to a creek.....very relaxing I visited some friends in Oregon who own riverfront property and it was so beautiful. Your pics remind me of my time with them.

Thanks for all the kind compliments. lol Shawnie. I bet you both are Nawty!!! teehee It's taken a long time to get this far with my home. Change is good! (at least that's what I tell myself anytime we go through construction). This house was a run down shack when we started many years ago. More to come....
