replacement filter pads

I am using an eheim 2217 canister filter. I have read on here something about replacing the white round filter pad with something from walmart or a craft store . Can someone tell me if i can also use that and what it is called and is there also something I can use instead of the replacement blue pads also.

Hi quarterback I think you are refering to filter floss and you can use pillow stuffing I think it is called and you can get it at wal-mart and craft stores just make sure there are no dyes or anything to hurt the fish or inverts...I am not sure about the blue pad in the eheim 2217 filters... Is it a carbon pad?? Hope this helps a bit Rob

My filter came with a white pad and blue and black the black is the carbon. I have removed it now . I'm not sure what the blue pad does.

The blue pad is the coarse mechanical filter.

I have no idea how you can replace it other than buying it yourself, but then again, you change those once every few years or so.

Oh. I didn't realize that. I thought you replaced them when they became dirty, Thanks for the help and advice

Nope, when they become dirty you grab a bucket of used aquarium water and you rinse them off.

When they decompose into your hand, THEN its time to replace them.

The carbon ones have to be changed every 2-3 weeks or so.

Too, you can check out WalMart craft department for High Loft Batting Material. It's in a big roll, plastic bag.. For a canister filter the pillow stuffing may be best. I have a wet/dry system and the batting works GREAT

What do i do with the batting . I bought some. Should I just cut some off the pile and stuff in canister or do I need put it into something first? I asked home depot and walmart paint department if they had paint strainer as someone had mentioned but they don't carry it.

There is a lot of batting in a roll. Unfold it, cut what you need and stuff it in there. If your canister has separate compartments...fill the appropriate one.
