How to remove hard water deposits

Hi all- I have put up with this enough! I have white drop marks on the inside of my tank. May tank is only 2 months old. It was brand new. They started to appear on day 2 or 3. It is all over the inside glass and is quite distracting. I tryed scrubbing them off with this scrubbies thing from the fish store that has a long handle.(It is really hard to control around plants and stuff.) It really didn't get off anyway.

I have fish in my tank. How can I get this stuff off. I think it is from hard water. We have really hard water here.

I use vinegar to remove hard water spots, but I wouldn't chance it with fish in the tank.
Are they under the water line?
I have hard water too, but the only time they would show is if I allowed the water to get too low and sit at that level for a while.

totally under the water line. Where would I put my fish? It is all the way down to the gravel too. What do I do with the water I have work really hard on getting my tank cycled.

I'm doubting it's hard water spots being under the water line and all.....hmmmmm, that's pretty odd.
You're sure they're on the inside?

I've merged your posts, to add to a post you can use the edit button found at the bottom right of your post.

Yes, I see, still weird, I would look at other causes rather than hard water spots.
I really have no idea what that could be.
Maybe other members will have some ideas.

That looks weird to be inside with water. The only way I would say is put your fish on a plastic rubbermaid type container with everything fish, gravel, etc... polish the glass I think Gunner have a post about it. Here's the link.

Good Luck.

Wow. Thanks for the link....This is a brand new tank (two Months). That seems extreme for my situation. Iwill definately try cleaning with Vinegar first and remove my fish and water. I haven' t got any film it is just spotty. But If that doesn't work at least I know where to look.

The link Navyscuba gave might be good for tanks that were in the condition that Gunner's used tank was in, but IMO since you're tank is new and I don't think you'll need to go through the extremes that Gunner had to.

If you decide to take the fish out and use vinegar, make sure there is no trace of it left when you add water.

But again, IMO I doubt what you're seeing is hard water spots, they normally don't form under the water line.

I hope not......I am still doing daily water changes......These cute little guys certainly are a lot of work......I know it will be worth it in the end. But I am getting kinda unlucky I think. Fortunately I have not lost any fish or my spirits would be REALLY low. I am sticking with it though

Once you get your cycle under control and whatever white spots your seeing, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of your new hobby.
Weekly maintenance is a breeze compared to daily changes.

that is totally weird on a new tank...and if the algae scrubber isnt getting it off, id contact the place you got it from...it looks defective somehow.....water marks and even scratches usually are not that pronounced when the tank is filled with water ...

I'm with Lucy and Shawnie water marks don't show underwater. That is the weird part of this thing is grinding my gears because I had some on the water line before but as soon as is filled up again they are gone. So IDK.

Ok heres a thought. When we first filled up the tank. I rinsed it out and then filled it. after it was filled there was thousands of little bubbles on the sides of the glass. My husband said that they were air bubbles and they would disippear. Maybe there was some sort of film on the inside of the tank. Maybe the mineral deposts are stinking to that. It "really looks" likes hard water droplets. I can scratch them off with my fingernail. They are actually bumpy

I guess what I am asking is the intail bubbles normal when filling a tank? Is it possiable it is related.

yes the bubbles will be normal because the water was probably warmer than the tanks glass temp..but the bubbles in the pic dont look like that.....were you able to get them all off with your fingernail?

lol.........No there are thousands of them. I think I will wait until my tank is completely cycled then remove my fish and have a go at the spots then.......There is no way I want to disturb the gravel until I have my cycle. Does that sound like a good idea? Feel free to let me know if you have a better idea.
