How deep to vacuum.............

When doing a gravel vacuum how deep into the gravel should I go ?
In other words:
How deep into the gravel does fish poop go ?

Your tank is larger than mine, but I go all the to the bottom. The flakes can get past the gravel and as fish waste breaks down it can make it's way to the bottom.

You want to vacuum as deep into the gravel as possible. It usually does not happen that often in FW aquariums with shallow gravel, but if you dont stir your gravel nitrogen pockets can be created in areas that arent often cleaned and lack of oxygen... and this can become quite dangerous.

Thats the main reason why you want to clean your gravel in depth, to get rid of the gunk getting through it and to prevent any N-pockets from forming.

They'll get them, the problem is that they themselves produce a lot of waste. If you have mts in the tank i recommend vacumming every water change.
