White transluscent slime?

Hi all,

Very new here, and must say, this is a great site; full of great info. I ama rank beginner, and the last two week have been a huge learning curve.

I have a 40 gallon tank, no living plants, running about a week and a half now. I used a "Bio-booster" to get things started, and I have noticed this transluscent white slime after about 5 days. It was primarily on the silicone at the tank seams, as well as on the fake plants filter tubing etc, but not noticed on the tank walls. I opened my canister filter and found it full of this stuff. Most peices were 5-10mm in length and 1-2mm in width. I cleaned the filter and did a 15% water change. 3 days have passed and all looked good. All the tests were good and I added 4 fish, 2 Scissortails and 2 zebra danio's. They seem very happy. 3 days on and I am noticing this slimey stuff again appearing on the silicone at the tank seams.

I have been trying to research on the internet, and believe it may be Hydra. What do you all think?

If so, what is the best remedy?

If not, what could it be? Is it a worry?

Regards

Ed

ive read about it before. i thinks its caused by the new bacteria forming in your tank and is perfectly normal for newer aquariums. I think the species of suckermouth cats like the otocinclus and bristlenose plecos may eat it, otherwise you can just wipe it down.
