Buckets of standing water

I have been filling two 5 gallon buckets of water three days ahead of time to prepare for me weekly water change. I add water conditioner and plant food at this time. I just finished reading this forum about pythons and am now confused. I have been pre-filling my buckets of water because I thought this would de-chlorine the tap water. Have I been wasting my time by making buckets of standing water for my weekly cleaning?

It would be so much easier if I could just add buckets of tap water the same day I am cleaning my tank. If I just add the plant fertilizer and water conditioner as I am filling the tank would make life so much easier. For some reason I thought I had to let the water stand for a few days before adding it to the tank. I can also make sure that the temperature of the water in the buckets is warm enough as the standing bucket of water is usually colder than my tank water.

I would appreciate any advise on how I can add tap water directly to the tank and ensure that this is safe for me fishies.

yes you are wasting time...most water conditioners are de-chlorinator as well ..what kind are you using?

Are you on a city water?
If so, most cities are now using chloramine, which has to be chemically neutralized.
Letting it stand DOES NOT remove it.

I am using Aqua plus by nutrifin(hagen).
I live in Burnaby British Columbia(Canada). The water we get come from glacial mountains. I smell chlorine when the tap is turned on and left to run for a minute.
I am starting to get excited and looking towards my next water change. I was letting the water stand because I thought it needed time for the water conditioner to mix evenly. I always wondered how people with 55 gallon tanks do a 25% water change. I pictured people houses filled with many buckets of water. LOL
If water conditioners work immediately I no longer need to use 4 buckets when I clean my tank. 2 to hold treated water 1 to siphon out waste and finally 1 to hold my assessories.

I am looking forward to your recommendation
Thanks

yes, aqua plus is a dechlorinator- dechloraminator. add it to the bucket of tap 1 min before the water change...

yup, not necessary to let it sit, and that does not get rid of chloramines. only the conditioner gets rid of both and it works instantly.
