water change vs. vacuum

Sorry, I have a feeling this is kinda a dumb newb question...but I'm going to ask anyway, so here it goes....

Is there a difference between a water change and vacuuming the gravel? I guess I keep thinking that when i go to vacuum the gravel, essentially I am doing a water change as well since I'm still siphoning out water. But then I read and see others referring to changing the water and vacuuming the gravel as (2) seperate things?

Can someone please enlighten this newbie! Thanks.

no question is stupid unless you dont ask it

all the times when you vacuum , you of course are doing the water change ...how can you not ...but sometimes just a water change is needed as the beneficial bacteria that lives in the gravel doesnt need to be bothered...

some people do weekly water changes with every other week gravel vacs...and some do both every week...depends on what kinda poo'ers you have ...did that make sense or did I just do a "womans ramble"? LOL

Nope, I'm a guy and that made perfect sense lol. Every other week is usually good enough for a gravel vac.
