Water changes every 6 months???

Tetra is saying that if you use their new product, you only have to do a water change every 6 months...

Have they lost their minds? What are they going to come up with next to try to get people to spend money

I wouldn't trust anything that says you don't have to do waterchanges but every 6mths, water changes not only help clean your tank, but are refreshing to the fish. If you watch your fish after a water change they will actually jsut about dance in the water (or mine do) My tanks get 2 a week, one w/ vaccuming and one reg waterchange and I do it just because seeing the fish so happy and healthy.

IMO, nothing replaces good clean water. Honestly, they are the best thing for keeping your fish healthy. Water changes have helped my fish way more than any meds.

I have been trying Tetra Easy Balance (both versions with and without Nitraban), not with the intention of not doing water changes, but to aid in keeping water parameters "balanced". Performing water changes is something I enjoy, as well as every maintenence needed. So far this product seems to keep my pH steady, and nitrates quite low (10 to 25ppm).

I personally don't think adding a product to the water would remove the constant build up of solid waste. I am very careful about gravel/sand vacumm, but if for whatever reason (has not happened yet) I need to delay for two or three days my weekly water change, then having this product makes me feel confident that I won't have a toxic spike. More so in the small tanks (5.5 or 10gal) where a casualty (e.g. a dead snail) could wipe out every living fish in a matter of hours; a product like this one might buy me a few more hours

By the way, for the 5.5gal I perform 30% water change twice a week, adding Easy Balance once a week. Maybe I'm wasting money, but so far, so good.

hmm good info..but why use easy balance if you are a regular water changer? just curious...

and seeing how you like doing water changes, could I hire you out a couple times a week ?

Besides removing waste water changes replace some elements that are used up by fish and plants.

what about mineral buildup? my water drops an inch per week ( about 1 gallon), and even more if it's hot out. I can't imagine how concentrated the dissolved minerals would get in 6 months.

We shouldn't trust this kind of product. Not changing your water for 6 months? YUCK! NO offence but Your fish will hate you if you use the product! PLEASE, don't buy the product for safety!
