Moving my tank

Hello.

I am moving and am hoping to bring my tank with me. It is a 37g freshwater planted tank with 10ish fish + some shrimp.

I am moving a 8 hour drive from NJ to VA.

There is no way for me to get a tank fully cycled and ready for the inhabitants prior to my move.

My current plan is to use some styrofoam boxes to transport both fish and plants. I will probably put some java moss in with the fish in a large plastic bag filled to popping like they do at the lsf when you buy a new fish. On the other side, I am hoping to get 2 10 gal tanks, one for the fish and the plants, the other to let the decorations etc to cycle. I am also planning on bringing my filter media to help the cycle along. I am not sure if this is a good idea or not given the 8 hour drive. I have a large peice of bogwood that I will scrub on the far side of the move, might even boil it to get rid of some of the algea on it (it doesn't have much on it, but I don't want that to get out of control in a cycling tank) before setting this in the eventual new tank (probably just the same 37 for now, will eventually switch to a 120g).

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob. I just moved. I just moved six fishtanks. Ughh. Fish in a five gallon bucket with filter media. Gravel in another five gallon bucket filled the rest of the way with tank water. It worked. Everyone survived. I asked the same question and the only suggestion I got was to put the fish in bags like you are planning so they don't get any traumatic injury. Considering an 8 hour ride, I would definately do that. Any questions, contact me.

Thanks. Glad to hear you were sucessful. Now I just have to hope the weather isn't too bad such that the fish fry on the way down.
