Tank Cover Cleaning

Well Im sure most people have this problem of calcium build up on the tank cover. My 15 gal. has it and it's pretty hard to clean. I've had it for a year. My new 40 gallon is starting to get that build up and I've only had it for 3 weeks. I wipe the cover with a towel and I use that tank-safe cleaning spray too. Does anyone here have an easier way to deal with this issue?

I use a plastic scrubbie sponge first, then a single edge razor blade to get the really hardened stuff, then use straight vinegar poured ove a paper towel and let soak while I do other tank cleaning. Then rinse rinse rinse..and it get's most of it, but I don't think anything (that's not chemical and unsafe) ever takes it ALL off. Hope this helps

I've had good luck with the organic-based 'Method' window wash I get at Target. No ammonia, so it's not harmful to fish or water, and it does a pretty good job of cleaning without leaving any residue. Works on both the tank exterior and the glass in the hood just fine.

That sounds great! We'll look for it next time we're at Target - the cichlid tank especially can use a good cleaning for it's glass top.
