Steps for complete tank "Makeover"

I have decided for my 10 gallon to move from gravel to sand, and I need to get some more (and replace) some live plants. The tank is also being moved to a new spot in the room so all in all it's a huge makeover for my fish.

I was wondering how to go about securing the fishies? There are 9 fish in there (betta, danios, tetras, and cory cats)...I was thinking of putting them in a 5 gallon bucket I have while I store the rest of the water, put the sand and plants in, etc. All going as fast as I can, of course

To try and save from a huge new cycle, would it be a good idea to keep the water I take out in buckets and replace it back once I'm done renovating? That way it isn't a shock of new water for the fish? I'm also not changing the filter media of course (I just cleaned out my mechanical filter sponge a couple weeks ago), so we don't have to worry about that much of an upset.

i think u should be alright, just be prepared for a possible mini-cycle becuase a lot of bacteria lives in the gravel. good luck!

if you want, you could hang the established gravel in a couple pantyhoes along the sand until it is established.

also, ive heard bettas might eat the sand, but i would wait until a more experienced member posts.

good luck!
