| My best guess would be a blue acara. He's definitely not a johanni or demasoni (no offense to the other posters). However, he is not compatible with the platys. African cichlids need a pH around 8.0. |

| 100% African, it won't be a South American.
I am not the best at Africans as I haven't had them in a long time, but if I had to guess I would say either Cynotilapia Afra or a Pseudotropheus species.
Also like already said I would get the fish away from the platys, they will not last long together.

Brian | Sorry, I have blue acara on my mind atm. I meant to say afra.
Blue acaras are South American. Afras are African. Great catch, Brian. |

| Blue Acara look nothing like that lol...
Definitely a Malawi African. Looks like a typical LFS "Mixed African" to me, possibly from Cobalt Blue Zebra lines. Could very well be a Melanochromis johannii or Melanochromis johannii mix. |

| My johanni's look nothing like that. They're stripes are horizontal and they have a lot more black. They're longer and slimmer. Now I'm confused.
In my defense on the acara thing, I've been up for 15 hours. Does that help my plea of insanity Granted I'm not overseas fighting a war, but I'm fighting a battle with a pre-teen |

| I feel poor when i see other tanks lol. thanks for your help on this...and yeah the platy are a bad idea...im working around to find a salution for that problem. in the future im going to build a 55g+ tank. they used to be really calm w/ eachother untill lastnight. Blue got extreamly aggressive. was the beta at first but now he hangs out under the filter and leaves everyone alone. I turned the light off last night and it seemed to stop blues "Natural" attack mode (i cant blam the fish for my poor planning) In a later post ill tell you all how i came about wanting to be a fishkeeper Thanks again everyone! |
