Good advice from the others regarding the tank size for an Oscar. They are a large fish that grows fast. I have seen them reach almost 20inches long but even an average sized one will be cramped in a 50gal. If it gets bigger than average it may even struggle to be able to turn around in a 50gal. Definitley a 75gal minimum tank size. For Oscars the bigger the better. If you do put an Oscar in a 50gal, don't put anything else in there at all. Get the biggest tank you can afford or maybe look at a different kind of fish if you can't afford a larger tank than a 50gal.

Once you figure out whats going on, let us know and im sure you can find a bunch of different cookie cutters for africans.. heres one for a 55 gal to see as an example
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/article...cutter_55g.php ...but the water has to be changed for them as they are a higher pH than oscars..unless the owner isnt keeping the oscar in proper parimeters....
