| | Fish Keeper | ive thought about feeding earthworms, but im affraid to put random worms into my tank lol. do you catch the worms yourself or are they store bought? do you clean them? if so, how?
when it rains at my house, these giant worms come out onto the patio, these things have to be as big around as a pencil and usually about 10" long. if i could feed these things to my cichlid tank (frontosa, labs, acei, eartheaters, zebras) i could save a ton of money! |

| | Moderator | as long as there are no pesticydes and such around your gardens or lawns, these worms after a rain storm are faboooooo for our fish...I do wash mine as i just dont want the dirt in my tank ...all my cichlids love them |

| | Fish Keeper | man, all the worms that have gone to waste drying out on the slab lol. when you wash them, do you just give a good rinsing to get the dirt off and thats it? do you cut them up at all, i havent dealt with a worm in a long time, but i recall them being difficult to 'break' do the fish have trouble with to large of pieces? |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | I have been feeding my 2 Convicts 2 times a day. I use Tetra Cichlid Crisp for the fist feeding, and Frozen brine shrimp for there second feeding.
Should I stop feeding them Brine Shrimp everyday and use the Brine Shrimp more as a treat? |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | cichlid food I've fed all my fish (including Lake Malawi herbivores) Spectrum and it is hands down the one and only fish food in my opinion. I've done varied diets and such and thought I was doing good until a professional fish keeper friend of mine insisted I try Spectrum for a month.
I saw dramatic results both in appearance and behavior along with temperment and health within 2 weeks.
Wish now I'd have known sooner. Search New Life Spectrum as it's not widely carried in small LFSs. It's by far the best thing I ever did for my fish. |

| | Fish Helper | I vary a couple of things with feedings. first I feed the cichlid flake in the morning, and at night i feed the pellet for them. but i alter this up and also I will skip either a morning or an evening feeding every other day. My babies are still juveniles and do need to eat daily for their growth and strengh, but with the reduction of every other day, lessen 1 meal, water quality is better and personalities in the tank. They also decided for themselves that my pleco's food (algae wafters) are theres now too. so if i am not sneaky enough then they go and get these too. I do once a month drop in a couple of peas for treats. so far things are good and their colors are wonderful!! along with their attitudes of strutting their beautiful selves! ; ) |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | Omega One pellets for cichlids (with the purple label) was what I used before trying Spectrum. It was a good basic for my omnivores and carnivores, however I still had to feed my mbuna lots of spirulina. Personally, I believe Spectrum is worth every penny. |
