Hello guys/gals I read somewhere that cichlids like to be in groups of 5 per species... is this true? I currently have

3 electric yellow labs
3 red shoulder peacock (1 male 2f)
3 acei cichlids

in my 80g tank...

Would it be better for them to get groups of 5 or will they be fine for now...
The reason I ask is because another two of each would break the bank lol...

i have never heard of cichlids liking groups. the closest thing i have heard that relates to cichlid groups would be keeping x number of males to x number of females to help control aggression. typically you want to keep 2 or 3 females per every male you have. hopefully this helps

They do better in large quanities not specificlly in their own species. However when you keep a species try to keep the ratio of 1 male per 2+ females, and in large tanks and large groups of one species you can have 2 males per 4+ females.
