I'm currently in the process of thinking about a new fish tank. I currently have a 29 gallon community tank and love it. A friend of mine wants to give me a few Melanochromis auratus that are a couple weeks old. So I'm planning on getting a 55 gallon tank in addition to the 29 gallon. What other fish can I put in this tank, as I like to have a variety. I read that you can put a pleco in there but then have also read that they kill them. Any info on them would be great. Thanks in advance.

great fish ...with a ton of tude!! its a fish that dominates the tank and make sure if you get some, you only get one male....he will kill any other males in the tank with him..and sometimes even will kill the females..but he should be stocked 1m/3-4f ratio...55 will be pushing it with them ..id go more 75g if you can.....african cichlids need to be overstocked to keep the agression down with a TON of hiding spots and rock caves etc... my boy in my 75 gal, definately rules the tank ....heres a great link to read for some more info http://www.cichlid-forum.com/article...cutter_55g.php
