Can y'all tell me what cichlids are the most peaceful... from y'alls experiences anyway.

can you be more specific? I think there are a ton of peaceful cichlids(when they want to be) but they ALL are unpredictable

Im looking for a cichlid that is colorful, preferably small, and actually looks like the stereotypical cichlid. Not something like the GBR. I already plan on getting those...

The african butterfly fish is making me nervous. They are carnivores and will eat smaller fish, which puts your cardinals at risk.

What if you chose not to have the african butterfly fish?

With the remaining setup, you could easily fit a smaller dwarf cichlid or 2 in there. They're peaceful.

Hmmm... Ok I can do that... I'm about to get another 30g this weekend (MTS ; ) lol... Um ok well assuming I took him out... could i have some names of the cichlids?

I think with cichlids unless maybe shell dwellers or similar dwarf cichlids it might work, without the butterfly fish of course.The ghost shrimp and the cardinals probally won't last with other cichlids.

Bolivian rams, kribenesis, apistogrammas are the only ones I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure another member will be along shortly with some more ideas.

Angels are cichlids. I'm not sure how they'd do with your gouramis, though.

What about an Acei Cichlid? They look Awsome

Acei are african cichlids from Lake Malawi. They cannot put placed in a tropical community tank. They have different pH requirements, different dietary needs, and must be in a species only tank.

Ok well I have a ten gallon available. Could one or two of those guys live in there happily or is that not enough space?

Lake Malawi cichlids require a minimum of 55 gallon tank. So no, your 10g won't work.

However, I bet if you looked at Kijiji and Craigslist, you could find a great deal on a 55 gallon tank and we could help you stock an african tank then

Ouch... a 55g... Um I live in a dorm with a 30g a 10g and a 5g... Even if my piggy bank had enough left for a 55g im sure either my dorm mate or my girlfriend would kill me lol... /sigh it'll have too wait : (
