Yellow Lab not aggressive? Ha !

Well, with a population of cichids now at 4 in my 65g, I'm already learning. After adding a second yellow lab and a blue johanni last night, I've seen the first, similar-sized, male yellow lab begin harassing the "new guy". Chasing him all over the tank, the "new guy" has even taken to hiding vertically behind the Fluval! There's plenty of rock and other features, but his hiding place of choice is that horrible spot. The first lab has now also begun chasing the yelllow tailed acei.

I suppose this should be expected, but should I be worried, or just let them figure it out? (I'm just waiting for the Johanni to make his presence known).

But, so much for the supposedly "peaceful" labidochromus caeruleus!

Sounds like you have your hands full!

When I stocked both of my african tanks, I always added 5 at a time. I was told this would spread the aggression around. Also, I was told to move things around in the tank before adding the newcomers to "confuse" the tank.

If it starts getting out of hand, take everyone out, change the tank around, and then add them back in at the same time. Also, make sure there are plenty of caves and "line of site breakers" in the tank. This is great for keeping the aggression down a bit.

Hope this helps!

I agree with bb..africans of ALL kinds are agressive and adding 5-7 a time is the way to stock that tank..then give it a couple weeks of good readings and do it again ..you want africans OVERSTOCKED to keep the agression down as well and 4-6 of them in that 65g is definately a war zone im sure ..goodluck !
