Severums

About a month ago I bought 2 severums, one green and one gold. My intention was to put them in my 75 gallon tank, but they were so small at the time I was worried that some of the fish in there would harass them, so I put them in my more peaceful 55 gallon tank. I know that 55 gallons is not enough room for them to grow to their full size in a healthy manner, but I'm not sure when I should move them. I don't want to move them when they're too small for fear of them being harassed, but I don't want to wait so long that I stunt their growth either. When I bought them they were about 2", and now they're about 4". Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Katie

You severums should be fine to go in with your other fish that you have in your 75 gallons. 4 inches is a decent size. My 3-4 inch sev loves to chase the bigger fish, so I don't think you'll have a problem with yours. I'd love to see pics of them if you have them!

Thanks for the input. I was going to move them, and then I got a mini cycle in my 75, so I'm gonna wait a month or so to allow time for that to level off well and re-establish the bacteria before I risk putting more fish in and throwing it more out of wack. Here are some pics of them though!

Hi Katie, I just added a 4 inch Green Severum to my 90gal a week ago and he's doing great. He's with a 9 inch Oscar, a JD, Jewels and a Con, so don't worry about a severum being harrassed, they can stand up for themselves!

Nick-thank you so much for telling me that! Even though I can't put them in my 75gal right now because of the mini-cycle, it settles my nerves for when I am able to move them. They're just so laid back and peaceful in their current tank that I guess they have me fooled!

Gourami Girl.

If you have any angelfishes in any of your tanks they probably shouldn't be around with the Severums. If the Angelfishes are bigger than the Severums, they will definitely chase the smaller Severums. Until the Severums get bigger than the angelfishes, you will need to separate them. I had to put my 5" green severum in my 10 gallon tank by itself. It lives happily and nothing bad is happening to it. So I have my small 2" gold severum in my 29 gallon tank with my large angelfish now. Nothing bad is happening. Everything is good now

So just to be on the safe side, Severums are very aggressive when they get bigger. People say that they become docile when they become older, but that isn't true. I hope your fishes are thriving happily
