Angel Compatibility

I'm interested in adding two Angels into the 500litre tank. Any issues with the stock I have at the moment? Would they have a go at the neon tetras?
Room is not an issue.

angels tend to chase the little ones ( neon tetras) and have been known to pick on them. You could try cardinals or black neon tetras since they are bigger. You could also try some red eyed tetras as well

my angels do not bother my tetras ...some say they do.... some have them and they dont...also, the black skirts are nippers normally...but again, I have 1 of my breeding pair of angels with them (4 of them)and they dont bother the angels just chase each other......with the space you have and plants for cover, I would get some ...

The neons have no trouble getting cover and the blackskirts keep each other company. The angel I had when I first started was a little aggro and use to line up the goldfish especially, but I think the tank was too small for what I had in there. Probably stressful tank going at the time - hopefully tomorrow is a successful trip to the LFS!

Neons/Cardinals are Angel's natural prey in the wild. If they grow up together they are generally alright, if they are put in separately problems could arise. However in that size tank you should be ok.

I had a school of 10 or 12 neons and a bunch of small angels and now I have huge angels and no neons. I have never seen my angels bother a cory, rummynose, oto, neon or lamp eye tetras. I never saw any signs of illness in my neons. I also never found a dead one. All I can figure is maybe at night when I wasn't looking the angels just picked them off one at a time. The school of neons just got smaller and smaller till they all disappeared. When the angels were small they could not eat the neons but as the angels grew so did there mouths. I might try the cardinals some day but the neons are just to small.

IMO if you like you neons I'd say no to the angels.

Thanks for all your help. I now have two silver marbled angels (and 2 mystery snails). The angels are about 2 inches long. If they settle in well, I'm planning on adding another 4 - 6. Hopefully by the time they are large enough, the neons will have probably reached their lifespan, or are large enough themselves, and won't add to them if there are issues.

As long as I added the neons first I've never had a problem with my angels and neons. The angels were young. I really think order of addition and age has something to do with how fish react to each other.
Here are old pic of my angels and neons

Thanks Ken. The tank is not following any particular theme - United Nations comes to mind!

Fantastic pics Carol - real postcard material! Hopefully that will be the case. Then obviously now is the time to put more neons in! Maybe 20 - 30?

At least that many give them time to get comfortable(lots of sleeping/hiding places) then add the angels.

Good luck with your angels and neons. Maybe consider some rummy nose tetras too. They are my favorite.
