Need advice on buying festivums

Hey guys,
I have the opportunity to buy a breeding pair of festivums for $70.00. Is that too much??. I think they are a great fish but it seems kinda high.

Hi Cesch

That is INSANELY high!!! My 3 inch festivum was $7. I saw some at Petco for $5 each the other day. They are really cool little fish though. I love mine

I was thinking it was pretty high. Do you think them being a breeding pair justifies the price difference??. I don't know if the guy will come down any or not. He's pretty proud of them.

1" Festivums here are about $3, and 3" Festivums are about $8-10.
That price to me is very high I would expect a pair, especially if it is from a hobbiest not a LFS, to be $30-40 at the most.

Thanks for the info guys!. I will pass on this then. I really don't want to spend that kind of money if I don't need to. This guy is a hobbist. But he listed them on craigslist as one of the rarest cichlids..lol..I kinda had to laugh a little.

Depends. If they are Wilds, possibly that price is fine. Otherwise, probably not. They are a nice fish, and are semi rare in the hobby itself because it can be tough to find them but not rare to the point of never seeing them.

Also, besides the price, I would be concerned about how old they are.
Being a proven pair is one thing, but if they are at the end of their "breeding career" ...that's another matter.
I think you are smart to pass.
