spartan parasites!!!

ok, ive been dealing with this FOREVER now. I have a Cichlid currently quarantined in a 14 gallon tank, because im not gonna introduce parasites into a new empty tank. He lived with my brother in his house for about 3 months in a 5 gallon tank, in which time the ONLY thing my brother did was feed him. After about 3 months the water had evaporated about half way, and it was virtually impossible to see to the other side of the tank, let alone the fish itself.
Well, I rescued it, and its new home will be in a nice big tank around 75 gal depending on what I can find. But, during his time with my brother, he got these
internal parasites that look like thin white worms. now they've multiplied fast and Id guess maybe a couple hundred are in the tank, and inside the fish.

Ive been doing daily water changes, and using doses of jungle parasite clear tablets, and ive also picked up a product called fish tapes to treat the cichlid itself by a bathing. But I cant say Im seeing any effects out of any of this. Can anybody help, and know what Im talking about? Ill try to post pics soon.

Good morning Puffer. Great job on the rescue. I'm attaching a link to a thread that may help you or it may not. See if anything there resembles what your fish is going through. I don't have personal experience with parasites. Best of luck. I'm sure you'll get some more responses soon.

I was thinking maybe anchor worms? However, I don't know that they would be free swimming like in the pictures. From what I've read this morning they seem to attach themselves to the fish.

well, from what ive seen they arent attaching them to the cichlid, theyre internal, as the cichlid had been, erm, "excreting" them. and now theres just an army of them on everything in the tank.

they look like planaria...and in a 5 gal tank never changed water, im betting thats what it is.they come from overfeeding and dirty tanks...as well as some show up in newly started tanks and on plants...planaria isnt harmful usually, and the fish eat them...but not when they are totally overloaded in a 5 gal tank then they become thru out the tank and fish! now that you have moved him, they are being release from the fish to the water ...which is where they live usually...if your fish is acting normal other than the nasty worms, do daily partial water changes sucking them up until they are gone...clean water isnt a place they like either

thanks, shawnie. from how you describe how they are conjured, it wouldnt be a surprise if that is what the worms are. The cichlid is otherwise acting pretty normal, but he stays in his cave most of the day and comes out at night.
thanks shawnie, Ill continue with my water changes, and do some research into planaria.
