If Our Fish Could Talk...

Have you ever wondered what our fish might say to us if they were able to talk? I currently have a tank full of mbunas; and given their nature, I think they might say something like the following. I hope that you have a good sense of humor:

"Why are you feeding us pellets that have been in the refrigerator for two years?!"

"Hey! Human! It's after 9 PM! Turn down the lights!"

"Stop messing with the rocks! I liked my cave just the way it was!"

"I want more women in here! Get rid of these other dudes!"

"Get off your lazy butt and give us a water change!"

"Haven't you ever heard of over-population? You're really pushing it, buddy!"

My gosh! At least brush your teeth if you're going to stare at us like that!"

"No! I don't like hard rock music! Put on some classical! Jeesh!"

"One degree hotter in here and we're all dead! Don't you care?!"

"My gosh...When I asked for a harem, I thought you'd do better than this! Are your females as ugly as mine?!"

"Please clean the algae off of the glass! I'm really starting to get claustrophobic in here!"

My Bloody Parrots would say "Daddy feed me! Feed me!" "Where is that larger tank you promised us?"

They probably already know and are just having compassion on you...or maybe they are just hoping that you'll get better on your own.

Me? Nah...I am already beyond hope. My daughter has already realized this, and has spoken of committing me for a long time. The only reason why she probably hasn't done so already, is because she is still too dependent on me. Gosh...I better stay useful around here!

Here's another one:

Papa mbuna to his fry:

"Hey kids! Come and see what we've got trapped on the other side of this glass!"

Fry:

Ooh, paps! That's ugly! Is it dangerous?!

This is hilarious! Thanks for the imagination and the sharetime!

Scary thing is, you're probably not too far off of what they'd say.

Hello BolivianBaby.

And exactly what do you mean by "of what they'd say."? Hmmm

Are you trying to tell me that your fish haven't spoken to you yet Amazing!

Guys and gals, we really need to give BolivianBaby some tips here!

Oh...wait...maybe BolivianBaby wasn't issued a special fishy decoder ring yet.

Yeah, with those puckering lips, and the way they flare their gills, I can imagine a betta being a boxer or a wrestler, and talking tough. I bred them once as a young teenager many years ago. It was a very interesting experience.

Now, another quick word from my mbunas:

"You see this mouth? You see that pellet? Yeah, that's right; there's something wrong here! Next time, buy us a smaller pellet, okay?! What were you thinking!?"

I have five tanks up and running, so it's just become constant mumbling chatter. Everyone's voices have started to run together.

The only thing I can make out are the words "stupid human" and "I'm hungry" occasionally

Excuse me, my dear, but I'm retired. What's YOUR excuse?!

Wait a minute, Cichlidelicious, You're retired and you have FOUR EMPTY tanks. I guess we should be asking you "What's Your Excuse?"

Well, uh, umm, erm, wiggle, squirm, BolivianBaby, you see, they were occupied, but now they are just temporarily empty. If I suddenly have a mbuna explosion, I am going to need a place to put them, right?

Phew! Got myself out of that one!

Actually, when I say "empty", I mean that they don't contain any fish right now, but they are fully operational with air hoses, filters and lights running.

BTW, keep up the snide remarks and I might just dump Bully Boy in your tank while you're not looking! That'll teach you! :P

I accidently merged your post about being retired and what was my excuse LOL sowwwy.....

I have no excuse but with some of the sayings you have come up with in this thread, which are a hoot!, makes me think your retirement is going to be a fun one!!! but I do only work a few days a week as my fish tanks need my constant attention(either that or my fish get lonely without me there to talk to them )

Glad you are enjoying my silliness. Actually, give it a few more years, and you'll be just like me. They call it insanity...or is that senility? Whatever it is, I'm having a blast!

Who needs work when you've got cichlids!?

Oh yeah...everybody's got to eat...and then there's the fish!

Oh, yay, you can play "eanie, meanie, minie, moe"-think I spelled that right

Welcome to Fishlore! You're a blast

Unfortunately, I have more than a "FEW" years before I can retire...(if I ever can with kids in college)

That is so true!!! but all the few tanks I have () require work...they are no different than having my kids back at home LOL

Well, gee...if I told you in which tank I was going to perform my devious deed, what surprise would there be in that?!

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a blast? That must be because I forgot to take my medication. Oh wait...I don't take any medication!

Actually, I don't like putting any chemicals in my body. You see, if you take too many pills during your life, you will end up like plastic. They'll dig you up a hundred years from now, and you'll still be there!

Man, that was bad! I better shut up while the going is good...or stick to mbuna jokes!

Ha.. don't retire.. have some really young children that require a lot of mom at home time or daddy at home time and let your spouse work... (I work on weekends and make the same as one of my husbands jobs in half the hours it isn't quite far is it?)
Thats getting ready to change though, when the baby gets old enough for school my hubby is going back to school... thus me working full time again.....

For a couple years though its at home with the fishies! My meanest kenyi gives me parenting advice... but I just can't eat my fry....
