Sevrum and Plants

I have a Sevrum that keeps eating the live plants in my 65G tank.
The live plants I have in the tank are some type of soft broad leaf that grows quite tall if the sevrum would stop eating them. I fed seaweed 2 or 3 times a week but the sevrum still is eating the live plants.

My question is what tall growing plants can I put in my tank that the sevrum won't eat?

I tried putting my severum in my planted tank and it did not work. Severums are huge plant eaters and will eat any plants, even the ones with the tougher leaves. My sev would even re-arrange my plants if he didn't like where I put them. I hate to break it to you, but you are gonna have to choose which is more important to you....your severum or your plants. Do you have another tank you could move your plants or severum to? I had to move a lot of my plants to my 75g when I added my sev to my 80g.

MissMTS: I only have a 65G and 5G.
When I got my 65G the husband said that I had to get rid pf my 37G and 10G. The 5G is home to my betta. So I guess it Sevrum.

Every fish is different. It may be that you just need to experiment with plants to find species that will work for you. I have a gold severum that will destroy even tough plants, so I went with just rocks and driftwood for that tank. I also have a planted 120 gallon with a Rotkeil severum pair, and that's been trial and error but overall is working out. The plants I've found that are a pretty safe bet are anubias, java fern, and cryptocorynes (I have several crypt species). There is also a lily plant in there that does fine. You'll probably have issues with most stem plants (I'm guessing based on your description that you have some type of hygrophila). Try a few of the plants I mentioned before you give up your severum... you may be surprised.

Do you know what you bought, or do you have pics? The plants I mentioned above are a great starting point for a plant eating severum.

Best of luck... here's hoping you have one of the well-behaved specimens!
