| Welcome to Fishlore
You are lucky to have such peaceful severums. They are beautiful by the way What kind of fish do you have in with them?
My Rotkeil severum is a terror! He has finally calmed down enough so that he tollerates his tankmates. He actually killed my male angel. I have heard that severums can range from really peaceful to really aggressive. Sounds like you lucked out! |

| Wow, you have quite a mix of fish there Just so that you are aware, most of them will outgrow your tank very quickly (especially the oscars and balas). |

| Thanks I keep my tank clean by just doing really thorough gravel vacuums and water changes weekly. The plants help eat up extra nitrates and waste at the bottom of the tank. I am currently running an aquaclear 110 for filtration. In your 125, is there anything in it that is making the water cloudy? |

| the 125 is crystal clear cant even see the water in it its my 55 that is staying clowdy i did a 75% water change 2 days ago and if i look through the tank the long way i can see about 1/4 of the way down the tank. i have a dual cartrage filter (60) gallon with a multi stage 20 gallon filter and two medium sized corner filters that run off bubbles. |

| Oh okay, I misunderstood
Do you vacuum the gravel when you do water changes? I am sure there is a lot of fish poop in there with all those cichlids. High nitrates and overfeeding can cause a bacterial bloom which causes cloudy water. You might want to try cutting back on how much you feed your fish and giving the gravel a really good vacuum. What is the nitrate reading of your water right now?
Here is a good link that explains the phenomenon of cloudy water: http://www.howtogetridofstuff.com/st...quarium-water/ |

| Yeah, I agree you are very lucky. I bought two severums, and once I found out that they would outgrow my tank, I tried to get rid of them. By the time I took them back two weeks later, one had already killed the other. |

| Hello,
I too have two severums. My Gold is about 5 inches "male" and my Green is about 71/2 inches. I've had my gold since the time when he was about as big as a quarter. He is peaceful to my other fish but I have to be really careful on adding any smaller fish now. My green is way bigger "female" and my male is scared of her. I think I made the mistake of buying her when she was already big. She doesn't bite the gold but follows him around and he doesn't appreciate that at all. He was used to being the biggest and now he isn't. Probably going to have to get rid of her, even though I don't want to. My community consists of: 1 bala shark, 1 super veil angel, 1veil tail angel, 2 rainbow sharks, 2 synodontis eupteris, 1 bichir, 1 gourami, 2 chinese algae eaters. |

| I keep severums as well. I have an 8 inch gold sev in a 75 gallon that I've had for over 5 years, and a wild caught Rotkeil pair I got last summer in a 120 gallon. Both the Rotkeils are around 7 inches. All my severums are pretty mild mannered. The Rotkeils are even in a community setup. |

| Severums are likely easy going until they pair-off. Once and if that happens you are going to see them defending their territory as Convicts do, and then some.
