| Malawis are great fish to get in to. The trick to placing them in the tank and having a peacefull society is selection of m/f ratios and species.
With mbuna you have your Met, mel, psuedo, cynatialpia, lab species. There are many fish from there to go.
One species I think is awesome in smaller tanks is the demonsai (they are psuedo). They don't grow to be huge and you can have about 8 of them for a coloney.
The Labs are great as well, but remember there isn't just the yellow labs, there is the red top hongi, transverse (sp) lab, and many others of bright color that are smallish fish.
The Cynatilapia afra are also on the dwarf size that doesn't grow to be a huge fish as well and is bright.
Of coarse I love my polits they are little and mean. (from psuedo group_
In one tank there is the abliity to choose your species, the big rule keeping one fish from a species group away from others in the same group:
IE red top hongi labs do not go with yellow labs they will fight and hybridize
that goes with mixing psudo with psuedo, etc .....
Smallish fish that go great together are the polits and afras, I have a breeding group of both in one tank and they love each other with no fighting. I have 1 male to 3 females of each species. |
