My new oscar

hi i have a empty 55 gallon tank that i just did a massive water change on today. i went and bought an oscar and acclimated him to the water and temperature correctly... he wasnt moving a ton in the bag but now he is in the bottom corner of the tank laying on the sand hardly moving.. i put some prime in the tank to maybe help him but im not sure what to do and if this is common behavior for new oscars and maybe he will pull through

thanks

Congrats on your new Oscar. Are your readings in order?
Could be he just needs time to get used to his new home

yeah everything is zero right now i just did a huge huge waterhchange... im hoping thats the case but hes just laying on the sand not moving.. only way i can tell hes alive is by watching his gills closely.. im not sure if this is normal behavior for new oscars or if he is sick

how long did you acclimate him? i wouldn't be too worried yet as he's probably just getting adjusted, if he doesn't start to perk up in a few days or so then something might be wrong with him, but just keep a close eye out for disease.

also, for reference, this site is really great for oscar info

and i let him sit in the bag in the tank for 20 min.. then every ten minutes i would dump a couple paper cups full of water in the bag and i did this for around an hour..

Don't worry about it. Oscars will often lie on their sides at the bottom after being moved. Don't feed him today and you'll probably find in the morning that he'll be moving normally and hungry! Mine were exactly the same on their first day.

I agree. My oscar did the same thing on and off for about a week when I first got him. He scared me to death....that little stinker, lol! Don't worry, he'll be fine Congrats on your new oscar by the way!

How's the Oscar doing? I love Oscars and consider them to be my #1 favourite fish of all time - and for keeping too. They have the best personalities.

Hope he pulled through.
