ranbow cichlid

Anyone ever had one in a community tank?

I Know they are peaceful and was thinking about getting one for my 70 gallon community.

And does anyone know if they must be kept in pairs?

thanks.

do you mean Herotilapia multispinosa or Pelvicachromis pulcher?
either can be territorial when breeding so i would be wary

Herotilapia multispinosa are very laid back and can mix with many other cichlids. What are they going in with?

i have 2 (M/F )Herotilapia multispinosa in a 23 gal( we did have 4 but had to give 2 to a mate when they paired up and messed up there tank big time) with 3 danios and 2 small bristlenose and A.E . they nip a little with the AE but most of the time fine ( he fights back) . my 2 lay eggs and protect half the tank due to set up style usiing plants and rocks and logs as a divider.
when they were in the larger 33gal tank with guppies, mollies and swordtails there started to shred them, so they got to move.

so i think one would be fine in a common tank that size.
have fun with the pretty colour changes
