Do i have enough??

I was just wondering if more malawi cichlids would reduce aggression. I have three in my 30gal. (acei, lombradoi, auratus)do you think 3 or 4 more would help? I am open to any suggestions 'cause none of my cichlids get along.

hi it depends on the breed because some like to be in small groups while others have to be in large groups e.g ps demasoni 15+. adding more might help (get lost in the croud) for eg. or make more fuss.

ok thanks. I really think I should give it a try. It couldn't be any worse than it is now.

I can tell you that w/ a 30g tank the auratus and kenyi will not work in the same tank. The auratus is known for killing other fish. The kenyi's are extremely aggressive as well.
Mixing a severly aggressive cichild w/ a less aggressive cichild will also not work out, the acei and mel auratus and the kenyi.

Also the acei grow to big for a 30g tank.

You should also stick to the 1 male per 2-3 females helps w/ aggression, but the aurartus will kill his females even.

I would suggest taking the kenyi, auratus back to the store, and keep to other species.

Heres a link for stocking cichilds, you can see that less thank 55g there aren't many mbuna that go well.

smaller mbuna like afra, labs go good in that sized tank.

Yes I was considering selling those, at least the lombardoi, he's the meanest. My auratus is actually not all that bad. he did get along with the acei until I put the acei in the hospital tank, so I have hope of getting them back together. and also, Can you mix south american cichlids with african ones?

There are no species of african cichlids that go w/ the South american cichilds.
THe SA cichilds require soft acidic water, the african cichilds require hard alkiline 7.8-8.2 water.
Their personalities are also non compatable.

malawi's in general don't do well in a small tank. What is the footprint of the 30gallon? That's one of the most important factors when looking at malawi cichlids. Saulosi and Demasoni are capable of doing well as species only in a 30 gallon tank, given that the length is about 36" or so. You would have to be sure you overfiltrate a tank like this as well as these guys put out quite a bioload.

The cool thing with Saulosi is the males and females differ in color. The Demasoni are cool as they are a smaller dwarf like cichlid but very aggressive and pack a mean punch. You'd want about 13 of them if you went that way. Again, these tanks would have to be single species only, and they make good breeding colonies, though in the long run it'd be better to get a larger tank when able

I've been toying with the thought of tearing my 29gallon down and putting in demasoni's.

Thats good for a 30g tank. On all of my adult cichild tanks I have a biowheel rated above the gallons that they are and an ehiem ecco canister filter on each (I stuck w/ the same brands when buying them all so when I buy filter media I can buy the big box and they are interchangeable)
