cheers | While most cichlids grow far too large for a tank of that size, the following options should do fine: http://cichlidforum.com/articles/cookie_cutter_10g.php
And AquaClear filters are great... I don't see why that would be a problem at all. |

| If you are talking about liters and not gallons, there isn't any cichilds that would go in that tank.
If its gallons and not liters than there are a few species that would go. Such as some malawi cichilds, lake tang cichilds, (african), jack dempsys, etc. |

she said they had lived togther for a year... | Electric yellows are malawi mbuna, from Africa. They require at least a 30-40g tank. They should never be mixed with any other cichilds from any other lake. Convicts are not from lake malawi.
They may have lived together for that long, but they both require different water qualities, the malawi mbuna likes hard water, with a 7.8+ pH. Plus the cichlids cannot thrive in a tank that size. |

I personally would go w/ syn. species, they are from lake malawi.
All other fish are non compatable w/ malawi cichilds.
For an avatar go to my settings it will see an option on your user page to choose and avatar. My avatar is one of my yellow labs, its a female. |

| Like said above, all of the species listed here can go in a sub 50 liter tank. http://cichlidforum.com/articles/cookie_cutter_10g.php
The bigger you go the more options you have. 40 liters is about your limit for how small you can go, and even then that can only keep certain species listed in the link above.
Evaluate the space your tank is going in. Determine your max size tank that you can care for and house. Then decide what species you want from that. Or if you have ample amounts of room, pick a species and adjust tank size to fit that species. I suggest deciding for sure what size tank you want first then picking species to live in it. |
